The gradebook icon colors are designed to indicate student activity within a lesson. Based on the policies that are set in many lessons, the normal behavior for the icons would be:
-
Green: If a student has viewed, attempted, and passed all the sections and the lesson has been submitted (e.g., force graded, as the submit buttons are turned off).
-
Yellow: The lesson is in progress (it has been opened and not force graded).
- Red: The lesson has been submitted (e.g., force graded) and one of the passing criteria was not met (viewed, attempted, and passed).
There is a special circumstance for our content that makes it so the icon will never be green, which has to do with our data table questions. To make those questions manually gradeable, our curriculum authors hid an essay question in the source code of the question, that the student will never see. However, Portal still interprets it as being there, so the students will always fail the passing criteria for that lesson, as they will never view or attempt it.
Tips to See the Green Checkmark
- In the lesson policies, change the setting "Complete When" to "Viewed All Sections" or "Viewed and Attempted."
- Turn on the "Submit" button.
