Accessing and Filtering the SI Lab Portal Gradebook

Updated on

The SI Lab Portal Gradebook is designed with several filtering options available to access the specific lesson and students you wish to grade. This article will discuss best practices in accessing and filtering the gradebook.

1. Enter the course you wish to grade and select the "Gradebook" tab in the upper right corner of your screen.

2. From the drop-down menu, select "Class Grades."

3. Select the lesson and/or assignments you wish to grade.

Under "Select Lessons and Assignments," go to the "Units" section. Select the specific unit you wish to grade or select "All Lessons & Assignments" to view all lessons in your course.

Once you have selected the unit you wish to grade, select the sections you wish to grade from the box on the right hand side of the screen.

Use the CTRL button on your computer to select multiple sections of a lesson.

Recommendation: For the most flexibility in selecting what you wish to grade, we recommend selecting "All Lessons & Assignments," and then the components of the specific lesson you wish to grade, illustrated below.

4.Select the course you wish to grade.

Under "Filter Results," select the course you wish to grade.

Recommendation: If you are teaching multiple courses, we recommend selecting one course at a time.

If you wish to filter your gradebook further, proceed to Step 5. This is recommended, but not required.

If you do not wish to filter your gradebook further, skip to Step 6.

5. Apply any additional filters desired to tailor your view of the gradebook.

The table below describes additional filters available for the gradebook, and the settings recommended by Science Interactive.

Filter Description SI Recommendation
List The "List" filter selects the user group that will be displayed for grading.

  • All Students - all students enrolled in the class

  • Students with Grades - view only students with grades submitted for the activity

  • Other Users with Grades - view submissions by non-students enrolled in the class (e.g., an instructor who attempted an activity themselves)

All Students
Results The "Results" filter selects the student results that you will view. This filter is particularly important if you are allowing multiple student attempts on an activity.

  • Best — Only the highest grade from each user is shown.
  • Average — The average attempt of all the attempts for each user is shown.
  • Most Recent — The newest attempt for each user is shown.
  • Earliest — Only the first attempt for each user is shown.
  • All (Best) — All of the attempts for each user sorted by best to poorest performance are shown.
  • All (Most Recent) — All of the attempts for each user sorted by newest to oldest time stamps are shown.
  • All (Earliest) — All of the attempts for each user sorted by oldest to newest time stamps are shown.

If you are allowing one attempt per lesson: Most Recent

If you are allowing more than one attempt per lesson: All (Most Recent)
Progress The "Progress" filter allows you to select the status of the user's attempts to be included in the search.

  • All — All attempt statuses (completed, in progress, and to be reviewed).
  • Completed — Only fully graded attempts.
  • In Progress — Only attempts that are in progress.
  • To Be Reviewed — Only attempts that require manual grading.
To Be Reviewed
User Use this to filter for a specific student's grades. Leave Blank
Date From/Date To Use this to filter the time period in which the lesson was submitted. Leave Blank

6. Set the number of rows to be viewed.

To ensure all student answers in a lesson appear on one page, set the number of rows to 50.

Do not make any changes to the inputs in the View Panel section.

7. Select "Search."

Select "Search" to view your students' results based on the filter applied. You will see a class list with the specific lessons/lesson sections you selected earlier. From here, you can chose to grade by student by selecting the students first or last name or grade by lesson by selecting the name of the lesson.
