The forced grading feature in the SI Lab Portal allows you to set a date when all active attempts at a lab will be shut down and automatically submitted, whether completed or not.
2. Select the lab you wish to assign a force grade date.
Upon entering the content repository, make sure that "Current Class" is selected under Sources and that "Lessons & Assignments" is selected under Current Class. From the list that populates, select the lab you wish to assign a start or due date.
3. Select the section of the lab you wish to assign a force grade date, then select "Edit."
Each lab contains two sections: the lesson, which includes the exploration and experimentation sections, and the assignment, which includes the evaluation section.
The two sections of the lab do not need to have the same force grade date. You can elect to assign a force grade date to one or both sections of the lab. You can also assign different force grade dates for the lesson and assignments if desired.
6. Set the force grade date for the section.
Select the calendar drop down next to the forced grade date. Then, select the date and time you wish forced grading to occur. Note that to set the time you will need to select the hour/minute boxes to change the time.
You do not need to select the checkbox to the left of the forced grading date. This will automatically toggle on when you set the date using the calendar.
To set the time zone in your course to match your or your institution's timezone, review How to Set the Time Zone.
7. Review and save the forced grade date.
Review the assigned forced grade date to confirm it is correct. If you are done making changes to the lesson properties, select "Save & Close."
8. On the Summary page pop-up, select "Save & Close" to complete assigning the forced grade date.
The Summary page will show you an overview of all the sections in the lesson/assignment and the policies that have been assigned. This serves as a confirmation/review of the changes you have made. You will need to scroll to the bottom of the pop-up to locate the "Save & Close" button.
When returning to the content repository, your view of the lab will change to just viewing "Lessons" or "Assignments," depending on what you have just edited. To view both lab components, select the "Current Class" tab and then "Lessons & Assignments."
