How to Hide a Lab

Updated on

By default, your course in SI Lab Portal will display all of the labs included. This article will provide an overview of how to hide a lab from student view. There are two ways to hide a lab in the content repository: from the content manager or the lesson properties page.

If you are setting multiple policies for your lesson, including due dates or forced grading, it is recommended to hide/show labs from the properties page. This allows for all changes to be completed at once.

If you are not setting any lesson policies or due dates, hide/show lesson from the content repository.

1. From the Class Homepage, enter the content repository.

2. Select the lab you wish to hide.

Upon entering the content repository, make sure that "Current Class" is selected under Sources and that "Lessons & Assignments" is selected under Current Class. From the list that populates, select the lab you wish to hide.

3. Select the section of the lab you wish to hide.

Each lab contains two sections: the lesson, which includes the the exploration and experimentation sections, and the assignment, which includes the evaluation section.

To hide the entire lab from view, you will need to hide both sections.

If you are hiding the lab using the content repository view, proceed to Step 4.

If you are hiding the lab using the lesson properties page, proceed to Step 7.

If you are setting multiple policies for your lesson, including due dates or forced grading, it is recommended to hide/show labs from the properties page. This allows for all changes to be completed at once. Otherwise, use the content repository method.

4. Select the "Hide" button to hide the section of the lab.

5. Repeat steps 3-4 with the second section of the lab.

6. The lab is now hidden from student view.

7. To hide the lab via the lesson properties page, select the "Edit" button for the lab section you wish to hide.

8. Select the "Properties" tab.

9. Scroll down to the "Scheduling and Visibility" section of the Properties page.

10. Uncheck the "Visible" checkbox to hide the lesson section from view.

11. Select "Save & Close" to save your changes.

If you are done making changes to the lesson properties, select "Save & Close."

12. On the Summary page pop-up, select "Save & Close" to finish modifying the lesson properties.

13. Repeat this process for the other section of the lab.

14. The lab is now hidden from student view.

If you later wish to display the lesson, follow the same process described above. However, select the "Show" button/recheck the "Visible" box to display the section of the lesson.
