Navigating the SI Lab Portal Class Homepage

After you are assigned as an instructor for a class, you will have access to the Class Homepage for each of the classes you are teaching. This is the entry point for all  aspects of your Science Interactive course. The Class Homepage can be reached by selecting the name of a course from the System Homepage.

This article will provide an overview of the Class Homepage.

You can return to the Class Homepage from almost anywhere within your class by clicking the class name in the SI Portal breadcrumbs.

Instructor Menus

On the instructor Class Homepage, a range of navigation menus are available, including:

  • Class User Manager - contains options relating to managing the users in your class
  • Proctor Tools - allows you to find proctors and to proctor an activity
  • Content Repository - allows you to manage your class content
  • Gradebook - allows you to view and manage your class's grades
  • External - allows for the management of external documents
Class User Manager Drop Down Menu

The Class User Manager drop down menu allows you to manage the users in your course. These functionalities include:

  • Search for Users - Perform a search for users within your course.
  • Show Active Users - View which users are currently using the system.
  • Import Users from Roster - Enroll students into your class using a user roster file. This function is NOT necessary if you are using LTI integration or enrollment links.
  • Remove Users From Roster - Unenroll students into your class using a user roster file.
  • Enroll Users - Enroll users into your class through a user search.
  • Remove Users - Unenroll students from your class using a user search. 
Gradebook Drop Down Menu

The Gradebook drop down menu allows you to access and view the SI Lab Portal gradebook. These functionalities include:

  • Class Grades — This option allows you to perform a range of tasks relating to viewing, editing, managing, and exporting student grades.
  • Item Statistics — This option allows you to view statistical data of how your students are performing.
  • Grade Reports — This option covers creating, managing, and viewing your Grade Reports, as well as viewing and exporting your students' grades as Grade Reports.
  • Rubric Tables — This option covers the creation and management of rubric tables that can be applied to external activities.
  • Regrade Jobs — This option covers initiating an assignment regrading job.
External Drop Down Menu

The External menu contains options relating to managing documents from outside of Möbius. Options here include:

  • External & Rubrics — Award grades for individual external activities and apply rubric tables 
  • External Import — Import student grades from activities completed outside of Möbius
  • Document Upload — Manage external documents from your students and upload them to Möbius on their behalf 

Use this menu only if you wish to import external documents or grades to the SI Lab Portal platform. Otherwise, this menu is not required for course set up or maintenance in the platform.

Class Details

The Class Details pane allows you to modify your course setup and calendar. This includes:

  • Class Info - Use this to modify the details of your class, including the class message, start and end dates, and change the instructors.
  • Edit Class Schedule - Use this to view and edit your class schedule.

Class Calendar

The class calendar will display the start and end dates assigned to individual activities, as well as any additional key dates you wish to add.

Units + Activities Panes

The Units pane displays the the labs you have elected to include in your course. The units displayed here appear the same as they will appear to students when they enter the course.

Selecting a unit from the list will reveal the activities it contains in the Activities Pane. For labs created by Science Interactive, two items will display: a lesson containing the exploration and experimentation content, and an assignment containing the evaluation section. Select "Start" on the desired activity to enter the lab.
