What is the new Science Interactive Lab Portal?

Our new Lab Portal is the new lab management platform that is replacing SI Cloud. 

Why are we moving away from SI Cloud?

SI Cloud served and supported thousands of students and instructors for over a decade. However, our new platform addresses its limitations head-on, offering faster performance, more customization, and a smoother setup process. 

Is this just a redesign of SI Cloud?

No. This is a new platform designed with the core functionality that you depend on in SI Cloud, plus new and improved features that deliver a better experience for students and instructors. 

What are the top improvements?
  • Significantly faster grading tools 
  • Seamless, institution-wide LMS integration (no course-by-course setup) 
  • Full editing control for instructors 
  • Improved scheduling tools and due date settings 
  • Enhanced academic integrity tools 
  • Future-ready features, including AI support (coming soon) 
What changes for students?

Students will experience a smoother and more intuitive platform, with no major changes to how they access or complete labs. 

Timeline & Transition

Who needs to migrate?

All current customers must transition to the new Lab Portal by Spring 2026. The SI Cloud platform will be retired after that semester.

When is the migration happening?
  • Pilot Cohort: Summer 2025 
  • Fall Cohort: Fall 2025 
  • Spring Cohort: Spring 2026 
How will I know when I’m migrating?

We’ll notify you via email in Spring 2025 of your institution’s assigned migration cohort.

Where do I confirm my migration cohort?

In the email that shares your assigned cohort, there is a link to a survey where you can confirm your cohort or flag any concerns.

Can I delay past Spring 2026?

No. The final migration cohort is Spring 2026. SI Cloud will be shut down before Summer 2026.

Setup & Experience

Will there be a change in the overall cost with the new Lab Portal?

No. There is no immediate and direct change to cost with the new Lab Portal. Our goal is to continue to provide more value for the price you already pay.

Will this migration affect how students purchase or access their kits?

Students will still be able to purchase kits through inclusive access, vouchers, the bookstore, and directly from SI.

Will I need to rebuild my course?

No. All existing course content and structure will transfer automatically.

What will I need to do?
  • Confirm participation in your assigned migration cohort 
  • Complete a one-time LMS integration (15-30 minutes) 
  • Set a new password (your login email will stay the same) 
Do I need to sign anything?

No new adoption agreement is required. You just need to confirm that you’ll participate in your assigned migration cohort.

Will I need to adjust any settings after migration?

With the addition of new features and functionality that give you greater control and customization ability, we recommend reviewing new features like due dates, repeat attempts, and grading options. 

Will I have access to training and support?

Yes. We’ll provide walk-throughs, how-to resources, and a direct support channel to guide you through the transition.

Special Cases & Support

Can I still personalize my course?

Yes! You’ll have more flexibility than before, including lesson editing and customization, pacing, grading, and more.

What if I use historic HOL content?

This content will not migrate and will no longer be available after Spring 2026, including Bio, AP, Forensics, Geology,and Environmental Science. 

What about ESL content?

ESL content will no longer be supported or available. All customers must migrate to the new Lab Portal and will get access to the most updated, Quality Matters certified content at Science Interactive.
