Adjusting Grade Weights in a Master Course

Updated on

This article will cover how to adjust grade weights in a master course. Instructions for adjusting grade weights in a child course can be found here.

1. Log in to your SI Lab Portal account.

2. Select the child course in which grade weights will be adjusted.

If you are unsure whether you are editing in a master or child course:

  • A master (parent) course will always be titled with the kit SKU. For example, LP-XXXX-BK-01 or SI-XXXXX-BK-01
  • A child course will always contain an identification code starting "MCR-" and will have the name of the master (parent) course listed below the name.

3. Open the Content Repository.

4. Select "All Content Types" under "Current Class."

Once you have opened to content repository, ensure that "Current Class" is selected under "Sources." Then, select "All Content Types" in the "Current Class" tab.

5. Select the name of the lesson containing the questions you wish to modify.

6. Select the folder containing the question you wish to modify, then select the question.

Select the folder containing the question you wish to modify, then select the specific question to be modified.

Each question type is typically found on a specific page - here's a quick overview:

  • Test Your Knowledge Question - Exploration Overview Page
  • Question Time Question - Exploration Content Pages
  • Data Tables, Photo Uploads, Long-Answer Questions - Experimentation Pages
  • Competency Review. Extension Questions -Evaluation Section

7. Select the "Edit" button to modify the question.

8. Double click on the box icon displaying the question type.

9. Adjust the grade weight in the "Weighting" box, then select "Update."

The minimum weight that can be assigned a grade is 1.

For questions with multiple inputs, grade weights are assigned to each input, not the overall question. For example, in the question below, you will need to adjust the grade weight for all four inputs.

10. Select "Save and Close" to save the edits made to the grade weight.

Once "Save and Close" has been selected, the grade weight will automatically apply to your course. Repeat this process to modify any additional questions that need to be re-weighted.
