Image annotation data panels receive student drawings on images that the instructor provides. This data collection type should only be used if students draw on images and should not be used if students are required to label an image.
They appear in Data Collection in the Experimentation tab and can be added to lessons through the Question Customization tool or the Custom Lesson Authoring tool.
1. Select "Image Annotation."
2. Fill in the following elements.
- Full Name: Number and name the Image Annotation panel.
- Short Name: Shortened name that will display for students in the data collection dropdown on their exercise page.
- Add instructions in the Compose Question box. Bold the instructions to match Science Interactive-authored content.
3. Select “+ADD” under Image Preview.
File sizes should not exceed 5 MB.
4. Select "Browse Files" to find the image on your computer.
5. Once uploaded, adjust the width and height of the image, if necessary.
We recommend keeping the image under 800 pixels in either direction. Make use of the preview on the right to see how the image will look to students.
6. Change the available line color if you would like, or add additional color options if you want students to annotate in more than one color.
The default annotation color is red.
6.1. Enter the following codes to use the corresponding colors.
- Green = rgba(0, 96, 100, 1)
- Blue = rgba(0, 0, 255, 1)
- Black = rgba(1, 1, 1, 1)
- Use www.hexcolortool.com to find additional color codes.
6.2. Select "+ADD" to add additional line color entry boxes.
This is useful if you would like students to annotate multiple differentiated elements in the image.
7. Select "Save" in the top right of the page.
This will return you to the Exercise page.
8. On the Exercise page, scroll to the Image Annotation panel and assign a point value.
If you do not manually assign a number, the point value will default to 1.
9. Scroll to the bottom and select "Save".
